The CBS Evening News is seeking a supervising producer for its Washington bureau with a strong background in journalism and exceptional television production skills. Working with the Washington senior producer, the supervising producer will oversee all Evening News coverage out of the bureau. You will help manage a team of producers and editors as they cover DC-related stories from the White House, Capitol Hill, Supreme Court, Pentagon, Justice Department, and other agencies. You will work with correspondents to edit scripts and develop story pitches. You will communicate with the senior production team in New York, including the executive producer. The supervising producer will also be the primary backup for the senior producer.
Candidates must be decisive multi-taskers who are recognized for their journalistic judgment and ability to remain calm in high-pressure newsroom environments. The position requires a broad and current knowledge of national and world events as well as strong writing and editing skills. The ideal candidate is a leader that inspires teams, both on-the-air and behind-the-scenes, to perform at their highest levels while meeting strict deadlines. The ability to communicate with other managers and producers across the news division along with network news executives is essential.
This position requires an understanding of newsgathering and broadcasting technology. An ideal candidate will constantly be seeking ways to innovate. You will strive to find new and compelling ways every day to showcase Washington correspondents and the stories they cover.
5+ years newsroom management experience
Must have impeccable news judgment and excellent multi-tasking abilities
Must be an excellent writer and copy editor
