CNET is looking for a talented and driven journalist with a passion for finding and sharing consumer technology deals and advice. Reporting to the Senior Director of Shopping Services, the ideal candidate will create and promote content around popular tech products and services at a discounted price. You’ll create and manage your own portfolio of consumer advice articles while assisting with new commerce content growth strategies.

As affiliate marketing and content publishing continue to intersect, the commerce editor will take-on a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide CNET users who are looking for a reliable, trustworthy destination to find the best products at the best prices

  • Research and writ deals and sales related news content for CNET to assist users in finding a great value for products and services

  • Create, manage and regularly update a suite of search-driven deals articles while working with SEO, BI, and the Shopping Services team to ensure the content works for the reader, ranks well in Google and is optimised to generate affiliate revenue

  • Develop relationships with retailers and online service providers in order to secure exciting exclusive offers on tech products and services

  • Assist in driving the editorial strategy around key buying events such as Cyber-week, Amazon Prime Day, Holidays, Labor day etc...

  • Evolve and improve CNET deals outreach through newsletters and social platforms

Daily Tasks:

  • Create daily "Cheapskate" deal posts and assist with content distribution across email and social mediums

  • Work with affiliate marketing agencies, merchants, and internal content teams to ensure proper content link insertion, tagging, and reporting

  • Daily curation of 3rd party ingested deals on CNET Deals

  • Occasional video production and distribution around tent pole buying events

  • Assist commerce team with development and management of native affiliate content campaigns

  • Assist with general affiliate marketing efforts while applying learnings to future placements and campaigns

  • Manage content expansion campaigns across the portfolio from ideation to production to tracking and measurement to sustained update cycles

  • Logistical assistance with any new commerce / edit initiatives

  • Assist in documentation, training, and editorial stakeholder "customer service" from placement to performance

  • Prepare additional commerce content pieces on an "as needed" basis


What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - emphasis in Journalism or Communications preferred

  • 5+ years of editorial experience in digital publishing

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Ability to quickly source and get users excited about about great deals and bargains

  • Knowledge of the affiliate marketing business model General knowledge of SEO best practice and the ability to quickly learn and adapt your writing skills as the SEO landscape shifts and evolves

  • Firm understanding of the tech industry at large and expert knowledge of the consumer electronic landscape

  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter comfortable with both taking direction on new projects as well as creating value independently

  • Familiarity with general office productivity tools such as Gmail, Slack, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Content Management Systems etc.
