DESCRIPTION:

  • Key executive position within CBS Operations and Engineering with long term planning responsibilities as well as overall day-to-day management of operations of all aspects of content distribution for the CBS and CW Television Networks.

  • Responsibilities include Network program/commercial integration and distribution to CBS Owned and Operated TV stations and the 200 + Affiliated TV stations nationwide; planning and scheduling of transmission resources including 6 C Band and 1 KU Band domestic satellite transponders; Dedicated full time 10 Gbps fiber services between NY and London, NY and Washington DC, and NY and LA.

  • CBS’ Cloud First initiative requires the VP of Broadcast Distribution be an innovative strategic planner, understanding the benefits of cloud based technology and to be an advocate for new technologies and workflows to advance our business, improve quality and system reliability and find efficiencies.

  • The VP of Broadcast Distribution is CBS’ point person for developing and recommending technology solutions and services that support the core distribution systems and associated workflows for the CBS and CW Television Networks including media asset management systems that support content ingest and processing, play-to-air integration and automation and distribution services that support feeding live transmissions to affiliated stations. A full understanding of the complete "broadcast chain" workflow process from scheduling, program creation/prep, ingest of content for play out and distribution and switching of feeds including the live, time sensitive program integration processes that supports News, Sports, and Entertainment -- Infrastructure and organization supports a nine plus billion dollar annual revenue stream for the Company.

  • Extensive knowledge of, and professional experience working with the broadcast technology vendor marketplace, Broadcast and Cable Network programmers, MVPD distributors, local broadcast affiliate station operations, emerging streaming companies and telecommunication industry companies which provide services to media companies; including satellite based services, terrestrial fiber service offerings and Content Distribution Networks (CDN’s) including emerging cloud based services.

  • Staffing and P&L responsibilities include managing a current staff of approx. 120 people (both union and management personnel) with annual budget responsibility of $50 million +. Budget spend involves managing Opex cost as well as Capex spend associated with core distribution projects.

  • Industry spokesman and CBS leader for distribution related technologies and services. Knowledge of FCC regulatory oversight affecting CBS and the industry in general (i.e. satellite industry C-Band spectrum challenge).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 4 year college degree a minimum

  • 10-15 years of experience working in a leadership position at a broadcast, cable, or emerging streaming program origination and distribution company is essential.

Preferred:

  • advanced degrees in business management or technical studies associated around media are a plus.
