Established in 2007, CBS Films is a multifaceted studio handling the development, financing, production and marketing of theatrical motion pictures. CBS Films currently plans to release four to six movies a year spanning all genres and will oversee their global distribution with partners while self-distributing the titles theatrically in the United States. The studio has released nearly thirty films to date, including "The Woman In Black," "The DUFF," "Middle School," "Hell Or High Water," "American Assassin," and "Patriots Day," and will be releasing more new titles this year, including "Winchester" and "Hellfest."
CBS Films Legal Affairs is seeking a summer intern that will be working closely with the legal and finance departments and will be involved with daily administrative tasks. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a law school student to gain experience working in a fast-paced environment in the entertainment industry with a focus on the business and legal affairs aspects of development, production, finance and distribution of feature films. Responsibilities include assisting with the drafting of legal contracts, copyright and trademark research, reviewing chain of title documents, preparing legal correspondence, data gathering/fact-finding, analysis and presentation. A portion of this internship will deal with filing and answering phones as needed.
Required Skill and Knowledge:
Must be enrolled in law school as a 2L or 3L.
Must have completed both a Contract Law and Copyright Law class and have an understanding of legal contract terminology.
Must have excellent communication and computer skills.
Must have a good knowledge of MS Office, Word and Excel.
Should have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to think outside of the box.
Should have a basic understanding of the entertainment business and desire to work in the entertainment industry.
Prefer students with some experience in negotiations (debate, mock trial, moot court, etc.), but not required.
Prefer students who also have a background and/or experience in finance, but not required.
Ad hoc Finance and Accounting project as assigned. Proficiency in MS Excel and Acess preferred.
Regular Job Duties:
Review and draft legal documents and company contracts related to areas of development, production, marketing, and distribution as directed by company’s attorney.
Assist company’s attorney and legal coordinator by working in contracts database and filing paperwork.
Organize file room and manage documents through company’s legal files storage vendor.
Assist company’s finance department with various assignments related to production and distribution of films on an as needed basis.
May be asked to answer phones or respond to emails on an as needed basis.
Estimated around 20-30 hours per week over an 8 to 9 week period.
