This role will support the CBS News Digital teams including its flagship CBSN - a free 24/7 news streaming service - headquartered in New York City. Currently, CBS News Digital together with CBSN is offered as desktop and mobile websites in addition to mobile and over-the-top connected TV apps. As our product portfolio as well as its sophistication continues to improve and grow, the need for data grows drastically with it.
The ideal candidate should have the interest and ability to take on highly technical analyses, which require researching, reporting, presenting and ultimately providing decision support services and actionable insights to the business. Sources of data include Adobe Omniture, back-end Teradata/Hadoop/Impala/Big Query databases and other 3rd party analytics engines.
Build and manage dashboards showing the health of key business metrics across platforms like desktop web, mobile web, mobile apps, connected over-the-top devices
Write SQL to query data tables (Hadoop Hive, Impala, Teradata or BigQuery) to extract clickstream, video consumption, ad impressions served and other user behavior data
Projecting traffic, video and revenue based on historical data, technological improvements, anticipated events
Arming the editorial staff with insights around the types of stories and content that resonated with users
Leverage insights found via 3rd-party research companies (Tubular, Sprinklr, iTunes, Google Play, Google Search Console) and syndicated tools like comScore to uncover areas of strength. Socialize and present findings to the Sales team to aide in their efforts.
Assist in troubleshooting data quality issues and work with engineering and implementation to fix bugs
Cater to ad-hoc data needs
What you bring to the team:
BA/BS. 2+ years experience in web analytics
Strong experience writing Custom SQL Queries to extract data
Strong experience using Adobe Omniture (Sitecatalyst, Discover, Workspace, Reportbuilder, etc.)
Proficient with analytical tools and languages supporting data analysis, reporting, and visualization - Excel, Microsoft Office, Google Collaborative Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Tableau, R, Python
Understanding of web, native app, video measurement technology and standards
Strong detail-orientation with a penchant for data accuracy and good grammar
Exceptional communicator across all levels of the organization; able to effectively tell stories with data and present findings to a non-technical audience
You might also have--
Strong mathematics, statistics background
Experience working in digital news media
Experience using project management tools like those from Atlassian (JIRA, Confluence)
Experience using Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery)
