Responsible for all phases of music clearance on assigned current shows, including: researching publishing and master recording administration/ownership, requesting quotes for music used in current programs, negotiate license fees (taking into considering budget, time constraints and company policy), able to identify potential copyright claims, ability to balance Show, Studio and Network requirements while meeting stringent deadlines, and ability to be flexible in a high pressure, time-sensitive environment.
Sr. Music Clearance Supervisor requires minimum five to ten years of music industry experience, preferably at a television or movie studio, and/or at either at a major music label or music publisher. Position requires knowledge of contract law (offer, acceptance, counter-offer and licensing) to negotiate terms, copyright law (public domain, derivative works, and infringement), union issues and current music industry practices (new media analysis). Ability to understand complex music issues, including ownership research, estimating costs for budgets and media analysis, in a time intensive environment to meet production deadlines. Superior computer skills necessary to use current music data base. Music Industry contacts imperative and excellent communication skills mandatory to interface with executive producers, studio and network executives (including creative and legal). Knowledge of music genres to collaborate with producers and music supervisors to find alternative musical sources if initial songs are unclearable due to cost, ownership or time restrictions. BA Degree, preferably in Business of Music or related Entertainment field, required.
